Research standards

The News Front Data Desk publishes independent analysis of official and public data.

How we work

We use official or openly published sources, such as national statistics offices and government agencies. We name every source and link to it. We publish our method and caveats with every study, and a free download of the data we analysed. We report findings fairly, including results that are unfavourable to any organisation involved. Small numbers, rounding and changes to boundaries are flagged where they affect the results.

Funding

Some studies are funded by organisations. When they are, we say so clearly on the study. A funder may suggest a topic, but the Data Desk sets the method, runs the analysis and decides what is published. Funders do not approve findings before publication.

Separate from press releases

Press releases on The News Front are submitted by organisations and are published as press releases. Research studies are written by the Data Desk and appear only in the Research section.

Using our research

Journalists and others are welcome to use our findings and data with credit to ‘The News Front Data Desk’ and a link to the study.

Corrections

If you spot an error, email editorial@thenewsfront.com. We correct errors promptly and note the change on the study. See our Corrections policy.
