Christensen Law recently made an innovative choice to help staff members who are trying to maintain a work/life balance throughout the coronavirus pandemic. It launched Christensen Academy, an onsite learning space that offers academic support and educational programming to employees’ children during work hours.

“COVID-19 rocked the lives of every single person in Michigan, young and old,” says Detroit personal injury attorney David Christensen. “Working parents became homeschoolers overnight. Children were thrown into remote learning with little to no preparation. How can anyone function optimally in those circumstances? Something had to give.”

Helping Employees and Their Families Through Troubled Times

Christensen Academy is conveniently located right across from the law firm’s office, making it simple for employees to drop off and pick up their children as necessary throughout the day. It provides academic assistance to students as they participate in remote learning through their own schools. It also gives them two hours of personal one-on-one instruction per week to help them prepare for tests, plus physical activities and parent conferences to help them achieve their full potential and stay on track.

The academy is overseen by Marsha Carreker, a qualified teacher with over four decades of educational experience.

The academy will be open until the students can return to regular schooling instead of remote learning, says Christensen.

“There are so many uncertainties surrounding this pandemic,” he says. “But our hope is that Christensen Academy can give parents peace of mind that their children’s educational needs are being met while they are working.”
